Abstract

Therapeutic Touch is a healing practice based on the conscious use of the hands to direct or modulate, for therapeutic purposes, selected nonphysical human energies that activate the physical body.
There were four of scientific premises of Therapeutic Touch(Krieger, 1993);
1. All the life sciences agree that, physically, a human being is an open energy system.
2. Anatomically, a human being is bilaterally symmetrical.
3. Illness is imbalance in an individual¡¯s energy field.
4. Human beings have natural abilities to transform and transcend their conditions of living.
The process of Therapeutic Touch consists of four steps: centering, assessment, unruffling, and transferring energy. There were several consistent and highly reliable results of the Therapeutic Touch interaction: relaxation, pain reduction, accelerated healing process, and alleviation of psychosomatic illness.
In nursing, the purpose of Therapeutic Touch was to restore order and harmony of the energy pattern by intentional and specific interaction between the nurse¡¯s energy field and the energy field of client.
